Abstract
Primary leiomyosarcomas are rarely encountered in the kidney that it seemed appropriate to report a case and to review the literatures.
Over all about 70 cases of renal leiomysarcoma have been reported in the world since Berry F.B. had described first case in 1919. In Korea, only one case of renal leiomyosarcoma was reported in 1971 until our case making up .2 cases.
The patient was 26 year old Korean married .male, who was admitted to the hospital, because of occipital headache, occasional puffy face and both flank dull pain. These symptoms developed incidiously since a year prior, to entry. There ¢¥was no notable weight loss. Hematuria was not noted.
On admission, no mass was palpable in the abdomen. IVP showed space occupying lesion in . the upper pole of left kidney. Renal angiography
revealed hypervascular tumor in the upper portion of left kidney. Left radical transabdominal nephr, ectomy was carried out. On microscopic finding kidney- parenchyme is replaced by the unencapsulated round tumor mass showing larger hyperchromatic spindle-shaped nuclei with eosinophilic stained cytoplasm. Van Gieson stain showed positivity.
Patient received no postoperative radiation or chemotherapy and is alive 7 months, respectively, postnephrectomy.
